Why the “Relaunched”?

As explained by Paradox and Haemimont in their official statement, “what started as a simple idea for an expansion became the realization that it needed to be more than just an update — it had to be a full relaunch.” The original engine, last updated in 2019, simply couldn’t support next-gen features like ray-tracing, seamless modding, or 4K rendering. So instead of patching it forever, they tore it down and rebuilt it.

This version also integrates every past expansion: Space RaceGreen Planet, and Below & Beyond directly into the base game.

The Martian Express train system now moves resources and people faster than ever, and automation tools make large-scale management more intuitive.

The Martian Assembly, a new endgame feature, lets players establish laws, form political factions, and even declare independence from Earth, adding a layer of governance and ideology to the already complex colony management. Combined with integrated mod support across PC and consoles, there’s near-endless replayability.

And yes, console players finally get access to mods through an in-game hub, something fans have been asking for since 2018. According to the developers’ Dev Diary, this cross-platform mod integration was one of the biggest reasons for rebuilding the game on a new engine.
