The Crew 2 Adds Hybrid Offline Mode in Surprise Update

Ubisoft’s The Crew 2 has officially received a long-awaited feature: an offline mode. Announced during the latest The Crew Showcase and released today on October 16, the new Hybrid Mode allows players to enjoy the game without an internet connection.

Ubisoft’s The Crew 2 update introduces Hybrid Mode, giving fans the option to play offline while preserving online features

This update follows Ubisoft’s response to long-term concerns about game preservation. When the original The Crew was delisted and rendered unplayable last year, players were left frustrated. That decision sparked the Stop Killing Games movement, which gathered over 1.45 million signatures with discussions on the subject on the table at the European Parliament. Some players went as far as filing lawsuits against Ubisoft. In that context, the arrival of Hybrid Mode feels like a direct answer to those criticisms.

Ubisoft Ivory Tower first revealed plans for an offline option back in September 2024, with testing beginning earlier this year on April 30. Now, just a few months later, the feature has been shadow-dropped into the game, giving players immediate access.

In a blog post, the developers explained that Hybrid Mode lets you switch between the traditional online experience and the offline option. However, since The Crew 2 was built as an online-first title, some features won’t carry over. Multiplayer content, global leaderboards, and livery sharing remain exclusive to online play. Other features missing in offline mode include Crew Credits purchases, LIVE Summits, PvP, Crews, and user-generated content like the Race Creator and Livery Editor. Even achievements tied to online actions won’t be available.

Despite those limitations, the update is a big win for players who prefer solo exploration or simply want to cruise without worrying about server stability. Ubisoft has also promised a dedicated article breaking down the exact differences between the two modes, including how offline save files will be managed.

PC players can already download the update, while console users on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will receive it later today.

Ubisoft has also promised that The Crew Motorfest will eventually get its own offline mode, though no date has been confirmed yet.
