The First Descendant’s Trading System Explained: Launch Date and Features

The First Descendant’s Season 3, Episode 2 update is almost here, and while plenty of new content is on the way, the spotlight is firmly on the long-awaited trading system.

Nexon confirmed in a developer note on November 4 that the trading system will finally arrive this season, but not without some last-minute adjustments. Originally, trades were set to use Caliber, the game’s premium currency, with a 10% fee attached. That decision sparked immediate backlash from the community, who felt it looked like a hidden monetization tactic.

In response, director Minseok Joo and community manager Jason announced that the fee will now be paid in Gold instead. According to the devs, the fee was "never meant to generate revenue" but to act as "a safeguard against abuse." Switching to Gold keeps that safeguard intact while easing concerns about Nexon profiting from player-to-player trades.

Because of this change, the trading system’s launch has been pushed back to November 20, though the rest of Season 3, Episode 2 content will still roll out tomorrow, November 6, as planned. That means you’ll get access to the new story missions, dungeon, and crossover content right away, while trading will follow a couple of weeks later.

So, how does trading actually work? Once it’s live, you’ll be able to head to the Trading Terminal in Albion and initiate one-on-one trades with other players. At launch, only Trigger Modules can be traded, but Ancestor Modules will be added on December 4.

This system gives free-to-play players a way to earn Caliber through gameplay, while also letting veterans fine-tune their builds without endless grinding. There are limits, though. Your Mastery Rank determines how many trades you can make per day or week, which helps prevent exploits.

Beyond in-game trading, Nexon is also introducing a Web Marketplace and companion app. These tools will let you list items, search for deals, and connect with other players outside the game.

Of course, trading isn’t the only thing coming in Episode 2. The update, titled “Assemble,” also introduces a new Descendant named Harris, a toxin-based DPS character with unique mechanics. There’s also the Supermassive Receptor dungeon, new weapons like the Hypernova sword, and a full Bayonetta collaboration event running from November 6 to December 4.

For now, the trading system remains the headline feature. It’s been one of the most requested additions since launch, and while the delay is a bit frustrating, the shift from Caliber to Gold shows Nexon is listening to its players. If you’ve been waiting to swap modules with friends or finally earn premium currency without opening your wallet, November 20 is the date to mark on your calendar.
