Ubisoft's Riders Republic Video Game Getting Movie Adaptation

Riders Republic

Ubisoft is turning its extreme sports game Riders Republic into a movie. The gaming company announced that the 2021 title will be adapted for the big screen, with directors already chosen for the project.

According to Ubisoft Film & Television, they're working with Gaumont to bring this action sports game to theaters. Belgian directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, known for their work on "Bad Boys for Life" and "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," will direct the film.

Screenwriter Noé Debré, who worked on movies like "Stillwater" and "The World Is Yours," will write the script for the adaptation.

While details about the story remain limited, Ubisoft describes the upcoming film as "an electrifying action movie" that will feature "non-stop thrills, humor, and spectacular stunts on the snowy slopes of the Alps."

The original game combines extreme sports with open-world exploration, similar to Ubisoft's The Crew series. When released in 2021, Riders Republic received positive reviews, with a Metascore of 77 based on 51 critic reviews.

Since its launch, Ubisoft has continued updating the game, recently adding a Park Creator feature in Season 14 that allows players to design their own playgrounds.

This adaptation joins a growing trend of video games being turned into movies and TV shows. Recent successes like the Sonic and Mario movies have encouraged studios to develop more gaming adaptations. Other upcoming projects include Horizon, God of War, Helldivers, Clair Obscur, Death Stranding, and Until Dawn.
