Xbox has revealed the first wave of titles joining Game Pass in August 2025, offering a strong mix of indie darlings, big-name releases, and returning favorites.

Kicking off the month is Rain World, a challenging 2D platformer where you play as a slugcat, a small creature navigating a harsh, post-apocalyptic ecosystem filled with predators and environmental hazards. The game emphasizes survival, exploration, and adaptation, with procedurally generated elements and a unique art style.
August 6 is a busy day. Starting with Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, a sequel to the critically acclaimed sci-fi RPG, continues the narrative-driven experience in a cyberpunk universe. You play as a sleeper, an android with a human consciousness, navigating a new star system. The game blends dice-based mechanics, choice-driven storytelling, and resource management as you build relationships and survive in a corporate-controlled galaxy.
Also arriving the same day is Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, a snowy sequel to the downhill biking hit. Now with up to 8-player cross-platform multiplayer, you’ll either cooperate to survive the slopes or risk everything in chaotic races to the bottom.
Fans of mech combat can dive into MechWarrior 5: Clans, letting players step into the role of Smoke Jaguar pilots during the Clan Invasion. Featuring customizable BattleMechs, diverse planets, and deep tactical gameplay, this entry promises a meaty campaign.
Rounding out August 6 is Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap combines third-person action with tower defense. With rogue-lite progression and four-player co-op, it’s a chaotic orc-slaying experience.
On August 7, Assassin’s Creed Mirage hits Game Pass, bringing the story of Basim, a street thief in ninth-century Baghdad. Engage in stealth-based missions, explore a detailed open world, and unravel a narrative about Basim’s rise in the Assassin Brotherhood.
August 12 sees the return of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the cooperative survival shooter set in the Alien universe. Fight through hordes of enemies with up to two other players or AI teammates, upgrade weapons, and tackle challenging missions with distinct classes.
PC players get 9 Kings on August 14 in Game Preview — a fast-paced roguelike kingdom builder where empire expansion and large-scale battles are key.

Leaving on August 15
On August 15, three games, Anthem, Farming Simulator 22, and Persona 3 Reload, will depart the service.
Anthem (Console and PC) is a sci-fi action RPG from BioWare where players pilot exosuits called Javelins in a shared open world. Despite its ambitious premise, it received mixed reviews due to repetitive gameplay and technical issues. The publisher has announced that the game's servers will be permanently shut down on January 12, 2026, rendering the game unplayable as it is an online-only title. Before that, Anthem will be removed from EA Play and Xbox Game Pass on August 15, 2025.
Atlus's successful JRPG, Persona 3 Reload, is also leaving the Xbox Game Pass. The game recently celebrated a 2 million sales milestone and announced its expansion to Nintendo Switch on October 23, 2025, with pre-orders already available.
