ZOOM Platform, known for selling DRM-free retro titles, has confirmed it has also been targeted by payment processors over adult content, following the recent ban wave on Steam and Itch.io.

However, the company says it has “no plans” to remove any games and is prepared to take multiple steps to ensure artistic freedom is preserved.

In its announcement, ZOOM revealed that one of its payment processors had contacted them after “a fellow member of the industry” raised concerns about the platform’s catalog. This prompted discussions with both PayPal and Stripe, resulting in what the company calls a “tripartite solution” aimed at balancing free expression with user safety.

Here's Zoom Platform's official statement:

"As you are likely aware, there have been a number of adult title de-listings across the industry. One of our payment processors made us aware that a "fellow member of the industry" was concerned about our content. After we heard from the payment processor, we immediately engaged in lengthy discussions with both PayPal and Stripe. We worked with our contacts at the aforementioned payment processors to develop a tripartite solution to ensure the right to free speech and freedom of expression as well as protect the safety of our valued customers and partners."

Security Upgrades and Alternative Payments

As part of this plan, ZOOM has rolled out an opt-in two-factor authentication (2FA) feature using Time-Based One Time Passwords (TOTP) to improve account security. Additionally, the company is exploring alternative payment options after hearing from customers who experienced purchase issues with their current processors.

The first of these changes is a new wallet system, allowing users to pre-load funds into their accounts for future purchases — potentially reducing friction caused by payment processor restrictions.

Firm Stand on Content

ZOOM made it clear in its statement that it will “do absolutely everything in our power to prevent such de-listings,” adding that they are “fervent supporters of artistic freedom and always will be.” Unlike other platforms caught in recent delisting waves, ZOOM says no titles are being removed from its catalog.

In a direct email to GamingOnLinux, a ZOOM representative warned that the crackdown could soon extend far beyond the adult gaming sector. According to their discussions, even well-known franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nukem, and Saints Row were described as being “potentially at risk” if current trends continue.
