After nearly five years of quiet development, IO Interactive is finally ready to lift the curtain on its long-awaited James Bond video game.
Originally known as Project 007, the official title of the game is now confirmed as 007: First Light—and the world premiere reveal is happening this week, during the first IO Interactive (IOI) Showcase on June 6.
First Tease, First Light
IO Interactive dropped the news via a teaser post on Twitter/X, showing a shadowy silhouette—presumably Bond himself—illuminated by a faint beam of light. The words “First Light 007” and “Game reveal this week” were included, along with the cryptic hashtag #EarnTheNumber, hinting at the game's core narrative: an origin story in which Bond earns his iconic 007 designation.
“It’s a new Bond we built from the ground up for gamers,” said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak, reaffirming that 007: First Light will not adapt any previous movie or story but instead introduce a wholly original Bond narrative.
While not yet confirmed, fans can expect a mixture of stealth, undercover infiltration, and cinematic action, akin to the gameplay loop of the Hitman series, but tailored for Bond’s unique flair.
What Platforms Will It Release On?
So far, IO Interactive has confirmed that 007: First Light will be available on:
PC
PlayStation
Xbox
Nintendo Switch 2 (confirmed back in April)
Bond hasn’t had a major video game since 2012’s 007 Legends, and fans have long hoped for a modern, sophisticated return of the spy to gaming. IOI’s approach—telling an original story, creating a new Bond, and potentially starting a trilogy—positions 007: First Light as more than just a one-off.
The IOI SHOWCASE will stream live from Los Angeles via IO Interactive’s official Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok channels on June 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. PT (right after Summer Game Fest showcase).
