1000xRESIST Wins Peabody Award: Celebrates First Anniversary with New Updates

The bold, genre-bending sci-fi game just bagged one of the most prestigious awards in media.

1000xRESIST Wins Peabody Award

Just a few days before the first anniversary on May 9, 2025, the acclaimed sci-fi narrative game 1000xRESIST has clinched a Peabody Award.

The game won in the Interactive & Immersive category at the 85th Annual Peabody Awards, joining the ranks of standout storytelling across film, TV, and now, gaming.

Developed by indie studio Sunset Visitor and published by Fellow Traveller, 1000xRESIST isn’t just racking up critical acclaim—it’s also moving copies as the game has officially sold over 100,000 units across all platforms.

And the accolades don’t stop there. According to a press release, 1000xRESIST has also been nominated for both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, known for sci-fi literary or fantasy works.

A Story Worth Telling—And Rewarding

So what makes 1000xRESIST so special? The Peabody jury summed it up as “a narrative adventure game set a thousand years in the future, focusing on themes of time, memory, and intergenerational trauma.”

The game follows Iris, a teenage girl who discovers she’s immune to a deadly disease brought to Earth by mysterious—but not malicious—aliens known as the Occupants. After most of humanity is wiped out, Iris becomes a revered figurehead known as the ALLMOTHER, ruling over a society of her clones—known as the Sisters—who live in an underground complex called the Orchard. Each Sister plays a role in the society’s survival: from Healer to Knower to Fixer. It’s eerie, emotional, and unapologetically bold.

You step into the role of Watcher (Sister Blue), whose job is “Communion”—basically diving into the ALLMOTHER’s memories to keep her legacy alive and sacred. But things go off the rails fast. Watcher’s unshakable faith starts to crack when her closest ally, Fixer, drops a bombshell about the ALLMOTHER’s past. The fallout? Fixer is executed for treason.

This sparks Watcher’s journey to uncover a 1,000-year-old lie, diving into Iris’s memories—from her high school days and the Occupants’ arrival to the Orchard’s creation. The nonlinear narrative explores themes of intergenerational trauma, diaspora, rebellion, and identity, with allusions to real-world events like the Hong Kong protests and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sunset Visitor reacted to the win with heartfelt gratitude: “This is an honour of a lifetime. We took a lot of risks in the storytelling and we are so proud to be recognized.”
