Sony Interactive Entertainment’s China Hero Project just wrapped up its latest application round, and the response was huge—over 200 Chinese games were submitted this time. With the recent global buzz around titles like Black Myth: Wukong, it’s not exactly shocking to see developers lining up for a shot.
At an event in Shanghai on July 31, Bao Bo, the project’s director, shared the numbers. He noted that some studios are even leveraging their association with the project to attract outside investment. This highlights how the program has evolved into more than just a funding source—it’s now a recognized seal of credibility in the industry.
For those unfamiliar, the China Hero Project is Sony’s long-term push to support promising Chinese developers—similar to its India Hero Project.
Chosen teams get a service package worth over 1 million yuan (around $140,000), plus mentorship from seasoned AAA developers, marketing support, and introductions to publishers and investors. Not every project gets direct funding from PlayStation, but Bao mentioned that Sony Shanghai does invest in select games it feels are worth the bet.
So far, phase three has picked 9–10 games, and phase four is already on the horizon. Across all phases, 19 games have been chosen, with 10 already out in the wild and 9 still in development.
Among them is Lost Soul Aside, a title from the program's first phase, now scheduled for a global release on August 29 for PS5 and PC.
