Over 25% Developers Working on GTA 6 Are Indians

Grand Theft Auto VI is already being described as "the largest game launch in history" inside Rockstar Games, with reports suggesting a budget that could exceed $1 billion. But beyond the staggering numbers, one detail stands out: more than a quarter of the developers working on the game are based in India.

According to figures shared by GTA 6 Countdown and other industry trackers, Rockstar employs over 6,000 developers worldwide across its global studios. These teams are spread across major cities like New York, London, and Edinburgh.

Yet the single largest contributor isn’t Rockstar North or Rockstar Lincoln, it’s Rockstar India, headquartered in Bengaluru. With more than 1,600 developers, the Indian studio accounts for over 25% of the total workforce behind GTA 6.

Historically, Rockstar India has played a supporting role in blockbuster titles such as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, handling environment art, asset creation, and technical support. For GTA 6, however, the studio’s responsibilities have expanded significantly. Reports suggest Rockstar India has been tasked with building Vice Beach, one of the game’s most iconic in‑world locations.

This is a milestone moment for the Indian gaming industry. While countries like China and South Korea are often highlighted for their development talent, India’s role in AAA gaming has been less visible. GTA 6 changes that narrative.

The move also reflects a broader industry trend toward decentralized, cross‑border development. By leveraging global talent, Rockstar can push the boundaries of open‑world design, advanced physics, and environmental interactivity.

GTA 6 is set to launch on May 26, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
