The creator of the original Saints Row believes Grand Theft Auto 6 should be the first game to break the $100 price barrier.

Chris Stockman, who served as Design Director on the first Saints Row back in 2006, recently spoke with Esports Insider about Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster. In his view, if any game can justify a higher price tag, it’s GTA 6.
"They’re the only ones that can get away with it," Stockman said. "I don’t think it’s a rising tide that floats all boats. I think that there’ll be a tremendous amount of backlash if everyone switched to $100. Not all games are created equal. I think GTA is the only one that can get away with it, and I hope they do. I really hope it’s $100. I think it deserves to be $100."
The debate over GTA 6’s price has been ongoing for months. With the game scheduled to launch in May 2026, analysts have speculated that Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive could push the standard edition to $100, well above the $70 norm we’ve grown used to. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has refused to rule out the possibility, fueling further speculation.
Stockman, however, went a step further by saying he actually hopes Rockstar sets the price that high. He argued that the sheer scope and magnitude of the project justify the increase, though he warned it would be a “disaster” if everyone tried to match that price point.
It’s not hard to see why the conversation is so heated. Reports suggest GTA 6’s development budget is around $2 billion, making it one of the most expensive games ever produced. Predictions from industry analysts earlier this year even suggested the game could generate $7 billion in revenue within its first two months, potentially making it the fastest-selling title in history.
Stockman also reflected on his own history with the franchise, recalling how Grand Theft Auto 3 in 2001 convinced him that open-world games were the future. That inspiration eventually led him to help create Saints Row, a series often seen as GTA’s cheekier rival.
For now, we’ll have to wait until 2026 to see if Rockstar really does push the price ceiling. Whether it lands at $70, $80, or $100, one thing is certain: Grand Theft Auto 6 will be one of the most scrutinized launches in gaming history.
