An old Grand Theft Auto 6 leak about its super‑realistic water physics is making waves again — and this time there’s talk about a jaw‑dropping budget behind it.
Even with Rockstar pushing GTA 6’s release to May 26, 2026, the hype train hasn’t slowed. Fans are still breaking down every trailer frame and screenshot, searching for gameplay secrets. Now, that 2023 claim about next‑level water simulation is back in the spotlight — but with fresh whispers about how much Rockstar might be spending to make it happen.
The original report came from Rockstar Mag journalist Aleix Venturas back in 2023. At the time, he said, "GTA 6 might be using a special kind of water rendering system, similar to NVIDIA Waterworks." He also mentioned that the source informed him that this technology is so expensive that "Rockstar can't use it all the time within the game", so "they're going to be building something themselves to fix that."
Fast‑forward to now, and gaming account VGTech claims Rockstar may have dropped $200–$300 million just on water physics. Supposedly, there’s even a 20‑person engineering team dedicated to it, with features like surfing, hurricanes, and even low tide scenarios.
Not everyone’s buying it. One fan joked, “300 mil for water y’all believe anything,” while another said Rockstar wouldn’t blow “10% of the budget on f*cking water.” Still, surfing mini‑games and dynamic storms have been fan theories for years.
Rockstar hasn’t confirmed a thing, but earlier reports suggest GTA 6’s overall dev budget might top $2 billion, with revenue projections as high as $7.6B in the first two months. If that’s true, pouring a few hundred million into oceans might not be as wild as it sounds.
