Activision has officially put a stop to one of the Call of Duty community's most well-known leakers.

On March 4, the X/Twitter account @TheGhostOfHope announced that the publisher had served a legal demand requiring them to cease leaking and sharing confidential information related to the franchise.

Hope confirmed compliance, stating, "Activision has legally demanded that I stop leaking and disseminating confidential information related to Call of Duty/Activision. I am complying with their demands."

For many fans in the Call of Duty community, the account had become one of the most recognizable sources for rumors and early reports about upcoming games, modes, and internal development plans.

Despite stepping away from leaks, TheGhostOfHope said they will still remain part of the community. However, their coverage will now focus only on official announcements and publicly confirmed information.

Their X profile has also been updated to reflect the change, now describing them as “retired.”

The situation quickly caught the attention of other Call of Duty creators and community figures. One of them, YouTuber Tdawg, questioned whether this meant Hope had been “right about everything.” The official Call of Duty account quickly shut that down, replying, “Nah. Even when leaks are wrong, they still hurt the people building the game and mess with player expectations.”

Call of Duty's highlighted comment addresses rumors and misinformation in gaming culture, emphasizing open communication.

The official account also responded to a user who suggested Activision should take similar action against hackers. The reply was “tick, tick ?"

TheGhostOfHope has been active since at least 2021, claiming early leaks on Vanguard (2021), MWII (2022), MWIII (2023), Black Ops 6 (BO6, 2024), and Black Ops 7 (BO7, 2025), plus details on MW4 (2026) and beyond.

Recently, Hope claimed that future Call of Duty plans are linked to Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox console. According to the leaker, sources indicated a delay in the new Xbox had disrupted marketing plans for the franchise. Allegedly, Activision had planned to release Modern Warfare 4 alongside the console to go head-to-head with Grand Theft Auto 6.

Hope also suggested that two Call of Duty titles could potentially launch together with the next Xbox. One would be a traditional multiplayer-focused release, while the other could be a standalone Zombies experience developed by Treyarch. The leaker compared the idea to the release strategy used for Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered.

Another claim suggested Microsoft wanted Activision to become “more agile” and “less attached to annualized releases” in the future.

However, the official Call of Duty account pushed back on those claims. “The rumor factory working overtime. This ain’t it,” the account posted in response.
