For those who know Alexandra and her sister Andrea, the move isn’t entirely surprising. The Botez sisters have been household names in the chess streaming community for years, often mentioned alongside creators like GMHikaru and GothamChess. While they’ve experimented with poker and even DJing, this project takes things to a whole new level. As Alexandra herself described it, Chess Arena is “what you’d get if Fortnite and chess had a baby.”

The game, developed under her studio Millions of Monsters, pits 40 players against each other on a massive chessboard. Unlike traditional chess, you don’t start with a full set of pieces. Instead, each player begins with a King, and moves are cooldown-based rather than turn-based. As matches progress, characters unlock abilities — ultimates, passives, and more — that add layers of strategy. And yes, there’s even a battle royale-style storm closing in to keep the action intense.

In her YouTube announcement, Alexandra called the project “one of the most meaningful” of her career. She also teased a few fun extras, like an emote referencing GothamChess’s famous “The roooook” line, and even a gremlin-inspired version of her sister Andrea as a playable addition.

Of course, influencer-led studios have had mixed results. Shroud’s Spectre Divide shut down within six months, and Dr Disrespect’s Midnight Society collapsed before its first game could launch. But Alexandra seems determined to avoid that fate, and with Chess Arena already opening playtests on Steam, players can see for themselves whether this unique mix of chess and battle royale has staying power.
