Arrowhead Studios Job Posting Confirms Work on New Co-Op Action IP After Helldivers 2

Arrowhead Game Studios, the team behind the hit co-op shooter Helldivers 2, is working on a "brand-new, unannounced project." While the studio continues to support its live-service juggernaut, a recent job listing for a Senior Systems Designer has revealed that Arrowhead is quietly building a new co-op action game based on an original IP.

The listing makes it clear that this isn’t Helldivers 3 or even a return to Magicka. Instead, the studio is starting fresh, with the new hire expected to help with "building and tuning the core systems, progression loops, and combat."

“This is your chance to be part of a co-op action game from the start,” the description reads, hinting at the early stage of development.

One detail that stands out is the requirement for Unreal Engine experience, which strongly suggests the project will be built on Unreal Engine 5. That’s a big shift for Arrowhead, which previously relied on Autodesk Stingray.

Another interesting point is that this game will be self-funded. As CEO Shams Jorjani confirmed earlier this year, Arrowhead’s next title won’t be backed by Sony, giving the studio full creative control. That also means we could see the game launch across multiple platforms simultaneously, rather than being tied to PlayStation first.

Of course, fans are already speculating about what this new IP could look like. Given Arrowhead’s track record, it’s safe to assume the focus will remain on tight, combat-driven co-op gameplay. The listing even mentions a social hub space, drawing comparisons to games like Destiny, where players gather between missions.

That said, don’t expect this project anytime soon. With the studio aiming for a smaller, more focused development team, the game is likely still in pre-production. At best, we’re years away from a release. For now, Arrowhead seems committed to making Helldivers 2 a “forever game,” while quietly laying the groundwork for its next big adventure.
