Helldivers 2, the cooperative shooter published by PlayStation, officially launched on Xbox last week — and the reception has been nothing short of impressive.

The game quickly climbed to the top of the Xbox Store’s “Top Paid” chart, with its $39 Standard Edition taking the number one spot for the entire week. Even the $59 Super Citizen Edition secured a place in the top five, competing alongside heavyweights like NBA 2K26 and EA SPORTS Madden NFL 26.

According to data from Alinea Analytics, the Xbox version sold around 926,000 copies within six days of release. For comparison, the PlayStation 5 launch last year saw approximately 633,000 copies sold in the same timeframe. That’s a notable jump, especially for a title that had already crossed 12 million sales in its first three months on PS5 and PC.

The Xbox debut on August 26 was paired with a Halo ODST Legendary Warbond crossover, which not only appealed to Xbox fans but also reignited interest among PC players. As per SteamDB figures, the game hit 167,795 concurrent players on Steam that same day — its highest peak since April 2024.

Interestingly, the launch date also marked a rare platform swap moment. While Helldivers 2 arrived on Xbox, the Gears of War franchise made its way to PlayStation with the revamped Gears of War: Reloaded. Alinea Analytics reports that the PlayStation version of Reloaded sold 259,000 copies in its first days.

I must say, Helldivers 2’s expansion strategy appears to be paying off — and it might just set the tone for more first-party crossovers in the future.
