Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft’s Baghdad-set adventure from 2023, is set to receive new content later this year, bringing players to AlUla, an ancient oasis city located in present-day Saudi Arabia.
Ubisoft confirmed the update during the NGSC 2025 event in Riyadh, revealing that a new story chapter with additional missions will be added alongside gameplay improvements to enhance the overall experience. What makes this announcement even better for fans is that all of this will be available for free.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot hinted at broader ambitions in the region, stating that Mirage “is not the end” of their partnerships in the Middle East, as they are still collaborating with "several parties in the region."
While the news caught many by surprise, it wasn’t entirely out of the blue. Earlier this year, French newspaper Les Echos reported on Ubisoft’s discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund regarding potential additional Mirage content. Ubisoft declined to comment back then, but today’s confirmation adds weight to those reports.
The upcoming expansion will introduce fresh maps, levels, and characters that unlock once players have completed the base game. AlUla itself feels like a natural fit for the Assassin’s Creed universe. As a UNESCO World Heritage site with more than 7,000 years of history, towering sandstone formations, and ancient ruins, it’s almost tailor-made for stealth gameplay and parkour exploration.
For those unfamiliar, Assassin’s Creed Mirage launched in 2023 as a return to the franchise’s roots, offering a tighter, stealth-focused adventure after the sprawling Viking saga of Valhalla. Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, the game initially began as an expansion centered on Basim, a mysterious Assassin who played a major role in Valhalla’s finale. Mirage eventually evolved into a standalone title, delivering a more classic Assassin’s Creed feel that resonated with longtime fans.
The upcoming AlUla story content could also address some lingering mysteries. Players may remember the hidden post-credits scene buried in Mirage’s files — a discovery that Ubisoft acknowledged but never fully explained. With new missions on the horizon, there’s speculation that the DLC might finally shed light on unresolved story threads tied to Basim.
This update also comes as Ubisoft prepares to launch Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ first expansion, Claws of Awaji, on September 16, developed by the same Bordeaux studio. In other words, Ubisoft isn’t slowing down anytime soon, keeping fans of both Mirage and Shadows well-fed with new adventures.
For now, Assassin’s Creed fans can look forward to exploring 9th-century AlUla later this year, with more details promised in the coming weeks.
