Team Asobi has rolled out a fresh update for Astro Bot today on July 11, 2025, introducing five new levels under the Vicious Void Galaxy banner and adding long-requested character cameos from iconic PlayStation titles.

This update expands the game’s level count to over 90, offering seasoned players even more content to master.

The newly added levels —

  • Twin-Frog Trouble

  • Suck It Up

  • Handhold Havoc

  • High Inflation

And one mystery level yet to be revealed.

What’s stealing the spotlight, though, are the VIP Bots hidden within each of these levels. After months of player speculation and requests, the Final Fantasy VII duo — Cloud and Sephiroth — have finally joined the Astro Bot universe. Cloud can be rescued in High Inflation, while Sephiroth unlocks only after beating all five Vicious Void levels. This marks the first time the series has been represented in Astro Bot, despite its strong historical ties to the PlayStation brand.

According to reports, Square Enix had initially been hesitant to participate in the cameo lineup, but the latest collaboration suggests a shift in that approach. And they didn’t stop at just Final Fantasy VII. This update also features 2B from NieR: Automata and Serge from Chrono Cross, adding even more Square Enix love to the mix.

Meanwhile, PlayStation’s upcoming title Ghost of Yōtei is also represented with the inclusion of Atsu, the protagonist from Sucker Punch’s Japan-set action adventure. All rescued VIP Bots appear in the player’s hub world.

To top it all off, players can also earn a new trophy titled “Rolling Rescue,” which ties into this new content drop.

Last month, Team Asobi also announced that an updated version of the limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense controller will be released later this year — a nod to the original version's popularity.

Since its launch in September last year, Astro Bot has enjoyed critical and commercial success, earning a 9/10 rating from several outlets and selling over 1.5 million copies in its first two months. The consistent rollout of quality updates like this one is likely a big reason why the game continues to stay in the spotlight.
