Black Myth: Wukong's release in August last year has greatly impacted the gaming monitor industry.
According to Trendforce's latest report, gaming monitor sales (we're talking 144Hz and up) hit 32.4 million units in 2024. That's a solid 12% jump from 2023.
The highly anticipated action RPG has energized the Chinese market, driving substantial growth for domestic LCD panel manufacturers.
HKC saw an impressive 50% increase in sales, while CSOT and BOE experienced 40% and 20% growth respectively.
The analysis specifically tracked gaming monitors with refresh rates of 144Hz and above, providing a clear picture of the high-performance display segment that Black Myth: Wukong players gravitated toward.
Panel makers HKC, CSOT, and BOE - while perhaps less familiar to Western consumers - have emerged as significant beneficiaries of this surge in demand.
BOE, in particular, has established itself as a key supplier for competitively priced gaming monitors.
OLED monitors are having their moment too. The market jumped from 900,000 units in 2023 to 2 million in 2024. Trendforce expects 2.8 million this year.
Looking ahead to 2025, Trendforce projects modest growth of approximately 5%, reaching 34 million units. This conservative forecast stems from the absence of another major catalyst like Black Myth: Wukong.
So far, Black Myth: Wukong is a major success on the PC platform Steam, selling over 20 million copies and earning 1 billion dollars in revenue. Moreover, on Epic Games Store, it ranked among the top 20 games. It is also available on PS5 console, but PlayStation is always shy about sharing its sales figures.
The next major hardware driver will be GTA 6, which Corsair CEO says will be released in early 2026 on PC and will drive significant hardware sales for the PC segment.
