Borderlands 4 is almost here, and Gearbox Software isn’t just focused on launch day — they’ve already laid out an ambitious post‑launch plan that blends paid DLC, free updates, and plenty of reasons to keep coming back.
With the game set to release on September 12, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store, it’s clear the studio has been listening to feedback from Borderlands 3 and aiming to deliver a more complete, fan‑friendly experience.
Pre‑Order Bonus: The Gilded Glory Pack
If you’re planning to pre‑order, Gearbox is offering the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes cosmetics usable by all Vault Hunters — one skin, two heads (including the new Ripper mask), a weapon skin, and an ECHO‑4 drone skin. On top of that, you’ll get four pieces of Legendary gear:
Level 1 Legendary Maliwan SMG – Fires spiraling projectiles in a deadly cone.
Level 30 Legendary Ripper Grenade – Teleports through enemies, damaging on each bounce.
Level 30 Legendary Torque Ordnance – Launches ricocheting rockets at high speed.
Max Level Legendary Daedalus Assault Rifle – Guarantees crits on full‑health enemies, with crit chance dropping as health decreases.
Everything unlocks at launch for pre‑orders, and the pack will be sold separately later.
Paid Post‑Launch Content
Gearbox has confirmed two major story expansions arriving in 2026, each introducing a brand‑new playable Vault Hunter with unique skill trees and action skills. Expect new main and side missions, Legendary gear, and themed cosmetics. The first pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Demand (Q1 2026), leans into cosmic horror and stars Ellie, daughter of fan‑favorite Moxxi.
Smaller DLC drops, called Bounty Packs, will add missions, bosses, Legendary loot, and Vault Cards with cosmetics and re‑rollable gear. The first focuses on Rush, leader of the Outbounders faction. All four Bounty Packs are included in the Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions or sold separately.
Free Updates for Everyone
Not spending extra? You’ll still get plenty. Free updates will bring Invincible bosses — raid‑style encounters with huge health pools and unique mechanics — starting Q4 2025. Weekly rotations will feature Big Encore bosses and Wildcard missions with guaranteed Legendary drops.
Maurice’s Black Market Machine will move to a new location each week, offering high‑value loot. Seasonal mini‑events kick off in October 2025 with Halloween‑themed Horrors of Kairos, adding spooky weather, cosmetics, and gear.
Long‑time fans will be happy to hear Pearlescent rarity returns in Q1 2026 alongside Bounty Pack 2.
And for endgame grinders, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode will introduce new difficulty tiers with the best rewards. You’ll even be able to start new characters at level 30.
