Borderlands 4 Leads a Packed September Lineup

According to the data covering August 31 to October 4, Borderlands 4 emerged as the top-selling game in the US for September. The latest entry in Gearbox’s iconic looter-shooter series continues to demonstrate its enduring appeal, combining humor, chaos, and high-octane co-op gameplay that fans have come to expect from the franchise.

Right behind it, NBA 2K26 maintained momentum with back-to-back strong sales months, helping it climb to the top of the 2025 overall sales chart. Rounding out September’s top five were EA Sports FC 26, Ghost of Yotei, and Madden NFL 26, making it a dominant month for sports titles, which claimed three of the top five spots.

Nearly half of the month’s top-charting games were new releases, a sign of how crowded the September calendar has become.

Nintendo Switch 2 Dominates Hardware Sales

Hardware sales in the US also surged this month, with Circana reporting a 24% year-over-year increase in September, reaching $324 million. Year-to-date sales are up 20%, totaling $3.18 billion.

The driving force behind this growth remains the Nintendo Switch 2, which has been the best-selling console since launch. Reports indicate that Nintendo is ramping up production to 25 million units over the next six months, a strong indicator of demand heading into the holiday season.

The PlayStation 5 held steady in second place for both units and dollar sales, while the Xbox Series consoles finished third. However, both saw “double-digit year-over-year percentage declines,” as noted by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella.

Accessory sales dropped 10% year-over-year to $197 million in September, with year-to-date numbers down 6% to $1.83 billion. Despite the decline, the midnight black DualSense controller remained the month’s best-selling accessory, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller continues to lead the category for the year.
