Call of Duty: Mobile has reportedly hit a major milestone, crossing over $3 billion in lifetime revenue and reaching 1 billion downloads worldwide.
These figures come from the LinkedIn profile of John Matthews, the current product manager for Call of Duty: Mobile, and were first spotted by industry tracker Timur222.
Matthews also previously worked on Diablo Immortal, which he claims generated $500 million in its first year along with 30 million downloads.
Now, while Activision hasn’t officially confirmed these numbers, they don’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s followed the game’s journey. Since launching in 2019, COD Mobile has carved out a massive player base thanks to its free-to-play model and familiar Call of Duty mechanics tailored for mobile. The revenue mainly comes from microtransactions—players spend money on COD Points, Battle Passes, character skins, and seasonal bundles.
The game made a huge impact right from day one. In its launch week alone, it racked up 100 million downloads across iOS and Android, outpacing titles like PUBG Mobile, Fortnite, and Apex Legends Mobile. That early success clearly wasn’t a fluke—it’s managed to stay relevant with regular updates, seasonal events, and a solid multiplayer experience that appeals to both casual players and longtime COD fans.
Interestingly, many expected COD Mobile to slow down once Warzone Mobile entered the scene. But that didn’t quite go as planned. Activision recently pulled the plug on Warzone Mobile support, while COD Mobile is still going strong. Turns out, when you already have a working formula, players tend to stick around.
Matthews’ mention of Diablo Immortal also highlights a growing trend: major publishers leaning into free-to-play mobile games that monetize through cosmetics and convenience, rather than up-front purchases. And when done right, as these numbers suggest, it can pay off in a big way.
