Call of Duty Warzone Mobile Shutting Down Just Over a Year After Launch

Call of Duty Warzone Mobile

Activision has announced that Call of Duty Warzone Mobile will be removed from app stores on May 18, 2025, roughly 14 months after its initial release. The company stated that the game failed to meet their expectations with mobile players.

In a statement released on Friday, Activision explained,

"While we're proud of the accomplishment in bringing Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile in an authentic way, it unfortunately has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences."

The shutdown will happen in stages. As of now, players can no longer purchase Call of Duty Points or Black Cell using real money in the game. The final day to download the game from Google Play and Apple's App Store will be Sunday, May 18, 2025, after which the game will be delisted and social features will be turned off.

Players who have already installed the game before May 19 will still be able to access it. They can continue playing with existing content, and the servers will remain active for matchmaking. Cross-progression with the console and PC versions will continue to work, allowing players to use their shared inventories.

According to Activision's FAQ page, any unspent CoD Points can still be redeemed for available content in the in-game store. However, the company has confirmed that refunds will not be available for previously purchased content or unused points.

The sudden announcement comes as a surprise to many, especially considering that Warzone Mobile had shown promising financial results. As reported by Statista, the game generated $490,000 in revenue in February 2025 alone. When it first launched in March 2024, it managed to bring in $1.4 million within just four days.

Despite having 45 million pre-launch sign-ups, Warzone Mobile struggled to carve out its own space in this competitive landscape dominated by PUBG Mobile, Garena Free Fire, and Fortnite.

Activision has encouraged Warzone Mobile players to try Call of Duty: Mobile instead, which has been much more successful since its release in 2019. The company mentioned, "We have special incentives for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile players in Call of Duty: Mobile and encourage our players to try it for free."

It's worth noting that Call of Duty: Mobile is developed by Timi Studio Group, which is owned by Tencent, rather than the team behind Warzone Mobile. The fate of the Warzone Mobile development team remains unclear, although they have indicated they are "busy and already moving forward on a variety of work."

Activision has not provided a specific date for when the game servers will be completely shut down. For now, those who have the game installed before the May 19 cutoff can continue playing, but no new seasonal content or gameplay updates will be released.
