Call of Duty is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, with reports suggesting the long-awaited port could arrive within the next few months.

The franchise has been a staple on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC for years, with its demanding graphics and fast-paced gameplay traditionally requiring more powerful hardware than portable consoles could offer. While mobile versions like Warzone Mobile have given players some on-the-go options, a full-fledged Nintendo release has remained elusive despite being promised back in 2023. The arrival of the Switch 2 changes everything, though, as the new console packs significantly upgraded specs and hardware capable of handling the intense action that Call of Duty delivers.

According to Jez Corden, the executive editor at Windows Central, development on the Switch 2 version is nearing completion. "The first CoD Switch version is nearly done and launching in a few months," Corden revealed on social media.

His comments came in response to fans questioning the whereabouts of the promised port, with Corden clarifying that the delay stemmed from a lack of development kits.

The groundwork for this release was actually laid back in February 2023 when Microsoft signed a 10-year deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to their platforms. This agreement came during Microsoft's massive acquisition of Activision Blizzard, yet despite the historic partnership, Nintendo players have been waiting patiently for any Call of Duty title to materialize on their consoles.

While neither Activision nor Nintendo has confirmed an official release date, the pieces are finally falling into place for a 2026 launch. What remains unclear is exactly which Call of Duty title will make the jump to Switch 2 first. Many are betting on Warzone, given its existing mobile compatibility and slightly more forgiving performance requirements. Others are hoping for Black Ops 7, eager to experience the latest maps and zombie modes on Nintendo's hardware, though that seems like a more ambitious technical undertaking.

Adding fuel to the speculation, Sledgehammer Games recently posted job listings seeking developers with "AAA mobile or Nintendo Switch" experience, which suggests active development work is underway.
