The Showcase Mode has long been a staple of the WWE 2K franchise, acting as a playable documentary where fans relive iconic rivalries or explore alternate scenarios.

Over the years, it has spotlighted legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena.

This year, WWE 2K26 is bringing CM Punk front and center with a dedicated Showcase mode when the game launches in March.

Interestingly, Punk was part of the very first Showcase back in WWE 2K15, where his feud with John Cena was one of two main storylines.

According to Insider Gaming, WWE 2K26’s Showcase will be narrated by Punk himself and divided into three distinct sections. The first section allows players to step into some of Punk’s most memorable WWE matches, reliving the moments that made him a fan favorite.

The second section explores “What If?” scenarios, imagining how Punk’s career might have unfolded had he not left WWE in 2014.

Finally, the third section introduces fantasy bouts, pitting Punk against opponents he never had the chance to face in reality.

This marks a significant milestone for Punk, who returned to WWE in November 2023 during Survivor Series after a nine-year hiatus. His comeback to the gaming series began as DLC in WWE 2K24, followed by a full roster spot in WWE 2K25. Now with WWE 2K26, he's receiving the full showcase treatment that many fans felt was long overdue.

A Look Back at Showcase History

  • WWE 2K15: Rivalries featuring Triple H, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and CM Punk

  • WWE 2K16: Stone Cold Steve Austin’s career

  • WWE 2K19: Daniel Bryan’s comeback story

  • WWE 2K22: Rey Mysterio’s career highlights

  • WWE 2K23: John Cena’s journey

  • WWE 2K25: The Bloodline dynasty, narrated by Paul Heyman

Not every installment included Showcase, but when present, it has consistently been one of the most talked-about features.

New Match Types in WWE 2K26

Beyond Showcase, the report mentioned, WWE 2K26 is introducing four match types, two of which haven’t been seen in over a decade:

  • I Quit Match: Last seen in WWE 2K14, this mode requires players to inflict enough damage on their opponent to force them to verbally surrender.

  • Inferno Match: Returning after 13 years, this match type features a ring surrounded by flames that grow larger as players execute more powerful moves. Victory comes from setting your opponent on fire.

  • Dumpster Match: A brand-new addition where players must throw their opponent into a dumpster to win, reminiscent of Casket or Ambulance matches.

  • 3 Stages of Hell: A grueling 2-out-of-3 falls contest, with each fall featuring a different stipulation such as No Disqualification, Tables, or Steel Cage.

Reports suggest that at least one of these modes has been in development for "quite some time," though it remains unclear which one. The revamped I Quit match is a strong candidate, given its psychological depth compared to traditional submission bouts.
