Cookie Clicker Coming to Consoles on May 22 with $5 Price Tag

Cookie Clicker

The popular idle game Cookie Clicker is making its way to video game consoles next week.

Set to launch on May 22, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, and eventually Switch 2.

Originally created as a free browser game in 2013 by French developer Julien Thiennot (also known as Orteil42), Cookie Clicker has become one of the most recognized titles in the idle game genre. The game later expanded to Steam in September 2021, and now, console players will have their chance to experience this addictive cookie-making simulator.

According to product listings that recently appeared on digital storefronts, the game will be priced at $4.99 in the US and £4.29 in the UK across all platforms, matching its current Steam pricing.

For those unfamiliar with Cookie Clicker, the concept is deceptively simple. Players start with a screen showing a large cookie that they click to earn one cookie per click. As cookies accumulate, players can spend them on various items and upgrades that automate cookie production, allowing them to generate cookies passively and at increasingly faster rates.

These upgrades start with basic options like automated cursors that click for you and grandmas who bake cookies, but eventually expand to more unusual methods like cookie farms, mines, and even interdimensional portals. The longer the game runs, the more cookies you produce, creating an addictive loop that has captivated players for over a decade.

As stated by publisher Playsaurus, the console versions will include all the features that have been added to the game over its active development period. These include:

  • Over 600 different upgrades to unlock

  • The ability to pet your dragon

  • Various mini-games to discover

  • Heavenly perma-upgrades

  • Musical soundtrack by C418 (known for composing Minecraft's music)

While the console versions will carry the $4.99 price tag, it's worth noting that the original browser version remains available and free to play for those who prefer that platform.
