Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill 2 Remake has surpassed five million players globally, marking a major milestone for the survival horror title.

The figure, recorded as of January 31, 2026, covers physical copies, digital purchases, and players who accessed the game through subscription services.

For those unfamiliar, Silent Hill 2 Remake is a full reimagining of the classic 2001 psychological horror game. Players step into the shoes of James Sunderland, a man who receives a mysterious letter from his dead wife, Mary, asking him to meet her in Silent Hill. That alone sets the tone for everything that follows.

The game retains the haunting, unsettling atmosphere of the original while introducing modern enhancements like ray tracing, an over-the-shoulder camera system, and expanded environments.

Some buildings that were previously inaccessible in the original are now fully explorable, which adds a welcome layer of depth for returning fans.

The remake originally launched on October 8, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, and shipped one million copies within just three days. That number doubled to two million by January 23, 2025. By October of that year, sales had pushed past 2.5 million.

The game then expanded its reach further when it arrived on Xbox Series X and S in November 2025, which clearly gave the overall player count a significant boost.

The critical and community reception has been equally strong. As per Metacritic, the game holds a score of 86 from critics, classified as "generally favorable," while user scores sit even higher at 9.1 based on nearly 4,000 reviews. On Steam, it carries a 95% positive rating from over 57,000 players, which is a genuinely impressive figure for a horror game of this nature.

At its June 2025 Press Start showcase, Konami revealed that developer Bloober Team is now tackling a remake of the original 1999 Silent Hill.

On top of all that, a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 was also released in theaters earlier this January, though the reception was mixed.
