Crusader Kings III Reaches 4 Million Sales Milestone Ahead of New Expansion

Crusader Kings III

Crusader Kings III has sold 4 million copies across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles since its launch in 2020.

Paradox Interactive announced this achievement just days before the release of the game's newest expansion, Khans of the Steppe, scheduled for April 28.

The medieval strategy role-playing game has built a dedicated following over its nearly five-year lifespan. Players have embraced its unique blend of character-focused storytelling and strategic gameplay set in a historically researched medieval world spanning from the Atlantic Ocean to India.

"Seeing Crusader Kings III succeed in both the computer and console spaces is such a treat for us!" said game director Alexander Oltner in the announcement. "Millions of people are engaging with history and writing their own dramatic tales of success and failure, which is a major goal of ours."

The game's popularity is evident in its Steam reviews, where it maintains an impressive 90% positive rating from over 124,000 reviews. According to SteamDB data, while the game initially peaked at 98,872 concurrent players during its debut, it continues to draw significant interest with recent peaks of 18,774 players in a 24-hour period.

Crusader Kings III is currently entering its Chapter IV content phase on PC, which will include the largest map expansion in the series' history. This update will open up East and Southeast Asia as playable regions, significantly expanding the game's already vast world.

Console players, however, will need to be patient. According to Paradox's release, there is a delay between PC and console content releases. Console versions currently only have access up to Chapter II expansions. This gap exists because the console versions are considered "adaptations" rather than direct ports, with development studio Lab24 handling the conversion process.

Priced at $49.99 on PC, Crusader Kings III offers players the chance to guide historical figures through generations of medieval drama, creating unique storylines filled with political intrigue, military conquest, and dynastic management.
