CD Projekt Red’s latest job listing confirms that Cyberpunk 2 will feature online multiplayer.

The company recently posted an opening for a Lead Network Engineer, with responsibilities that clearly point toward developing online systems, including matchmaking and scalable multiplayer features.

The job description stated: "As a Lead Network Engineer, you and your team will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems."

Then, in the Daily Responsibilities, it highlights goals like "develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking, and address challenges related to latency, bandwidth usage, and server performance."

Now, if you’ve followed the history of the Cyberpunk franchise, you’ll know this isn’t the first time multiplayer has been on the table. Back in 2020, CD Projekt Red had plans for an online mode for Cyberpunk 2077, or even a standalone multiplayer spinoff. But after the rocky launch of the game, the studio scrapped those ambitions in 2022 to focus on fixing the core single-player experience.

In January 2024, CDPR’s joint CEO, Adam Badowski, stated that multiplayer was being "considered" for Cyberpunk 2. With this job posting, it feels less like consideration and more like confirmation in progress.

Cyberpunk 2077 entered "pre-production" in May with 116 developers involved, according to CDPR's quarterly earnings reports. The Witcher 4, slated for release sometime after 2026, is currently the top priority, making Cyberpunk 2 a project that is still several years away.
