Dead by Daylight is finally making it official — The Walking Dead is coming to the Fog. After months of fan speculation and a few sneaky teasers, Behaviour Interactive has confirmed that Rick Grimes, Michonne, and Daryl Dixon are joining the horror-survival game later this month. The crossover chapter drops on July 29, 2025.
This isn’t just another skin pack either. Rick and Michonne will be fully playable Survivors, while Daryl Dixon joins the game as a Legendary Outfit (likely for Leon S. Kennedy, if previous crossovers are anything to go by).
Even better? Original actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are returning to voice their characters, giving the crossover an extra layer of authenticity.
The crossover was first teased back in May during Dead by Daylight’s 9th Anniversary livestream. Instead of a big flashy announcement, Behaviour dropped a clever Easter egg — certain letters on the roadmap weren’t highlighted, and when pieced together, they spelled “The Ones Who Live,” which just so happens to be the title of the 2024 Walking Dead spinoff focused on Rick and Michonne. Pretty subtle, but fans picked up on it fast.
In case you missed it, The Ones Who Live aired last year and follows Rick and Michonne as they try to reunite in a broken world filled with danger. The six-episode series was praised for its emotional storytelling and intense action, so it makes perfect sense to bring these two into the chaotic world of Dead by Daylight.
According to Behaviour’s latest update, the new chapter is already live on the Public Test Build (PTB) and will fully launch on July 29.
Along with the Survivors and outfits, players will also see new map elements show up — including the infamous prison from Seasons 3 and 4 of The Walking Dead, and the haunting “Don’t Open. Dead Inside.” hospital doors from the show’s opening episode. These features will appear when Rick or Michonne are loaded into the Garden of Joy map.
Of course, the new Survivors are coming with some unique gameplay perks. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Rick Grimes’ Perks:
Apocalyptic Ingenuity: Dig through chests to replace a broken pallet with a fragile one.
Come and Get Me!: After unhooking a teammate, you can cloak the injuries and blood of nearby Survivors—but you’ll scream and reveal your location briefly.
Teamwork: Toughen Up: When another Survivor stuns or blinds the Killer near you while you're injured, your pain sounds and scratch marks vanish for a while.
Michonne’s Perks:
Conviction: Heal others to activate this. If you’re downed, you can recover instantly—but if you don’t heal in time afterward, back to the Dying State you go.
Last Stand: Hang out in the Killer’s Terror Radius, then fast vault near them to deliver a stun.
Teamwork: Toughen Up: Stun the Killer to give nearby injured teammates Endurance and show them the Killer’s location.
The fan reaction so far has been overwhelmingly positive. One excited player posted, “I can't believe this dream is now a reality,” while another called the character models the “BEST LIKENESS EVER DONE EVER.” Clearly, Behaviour put a lot of effort into getting the visuals just right.
With previous collaborations like Silent Hill, Stranger Things, and Resident Evil, Dead by Daylight has become a who’s-who of horror. Bringing in The Walking Dead was something fans had been asking for for years, and now it’s finally happening.
Dead by Daylight is available on just about every platform you can think of — PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch. So if you’ve ever wanted to help Rick or Michonne outlast a brutal killer in the Fog, now’s your chance.
