Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has confirmed that another update for the beloved farming sim is on the way, despite earlier suggestions that the game’s post-launch content had come to an end.

The surprise announcement came during the Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons concert in Seattle, where Barone took the stage to share what he called “kind of a secret.” In a moment that sparked loud cheers from the audience, he revealed, “After the [last] update, I was thinking ‘I dunno if I’m gonna make another update.’ But I wanted to share something with you tonight… there’s gonna be another update.” (Thanks FRVR)

While no release date or content details were provided, fans were thrilled to hear that the game isn’t quite done evolving.

This news comes just months after Barone told fans that Stardew Valley updates were on hold while he focused on Haunted Chocolatier, his upcoming “chocolatier simulation” game.

Stardew Valley has come a long way since its launch nearly ten years ago. The 1.6 update, released last year, added a slew of new features — from expanded NPC dialogue and home renovations to quirky additions like turtle pets. As of December 2024, the game had sold over 41 million copies across platforms, with PC accounting for 26 million and Nintendo Switch contributing 7.9 million sales.

In addition to the upcoming update, Stardew Valley is also crossing over with Infinity Nikki in a free event that adds themed cosmetics and a limited-time story to the dress-up adventure. While some fans were skeptical at first, the collaboration adds a fresh layer of visibility to the indie hit.

Meanwhile, Haunted Chocolatier remains in development. Though details are sparse, Barone has teased that the game will be more action-oriented and, yes, will include fishing — alongside chocolate-making, of course. Whether this new Stardew update will slow down progress on Chocolatier is unclear, but for now, fans have something sweet to look forward to on both fronts.
