Devil May Cry 5 has officially smashed a major sales milestone, crossing over 10 million units sold worldwide. Capcom recently revealed the news through its updated Platinum Titles page, which tracks all their games that have sold over a million copies.
To be precise, Devil May Cry 5 hit 10.1 million units sold as of March 31st. Out of that total, the original release accounts for 9.1 million, with an impressive 200,000 units sold just between January and March. The Special Edition makes up the remaining one million units, thanks to its fresh content and technical upgrades.
This achievement marks DMC5 the best-selling entry in the franchise's history. While Devil May Cry has never been Capcom’s top-tier seller, this installment clearly raised the bar and outperformed its predecessors by a long shot.
The Special Edition definitely helped push those numbers, offering cool extras like Vergil as a playable character, ray tracing support, and smoother performance.
A Gripping Story and Memorable Characters
Set years after Devil May Cry 4, the game follows a powerful trio—Nero, Dante, and V—as they take on a terrifying demonic invasion. The story kicks off when the demon king Urizen plants a giant demonic tree called Qliphoth in Red Grave City, setting the scene for a wild showdown.
Beyond the action, the game dives into the emotional relationships between the three main characters—especially the complicated family ties between Nero, Dante, and Vergil. That personal drama, combined with intense, stylish combat, gives the story an emotional weight fans really connected with.
Gameplay Variety Keeps It Fresh
Devil May Cry 5 serves up a range of ways to enjoy its slick combat system. The main campaign lets players pick from different difficulty modes like Human, Devil Hunter, and Son of Sparda, so there’s something for everyone—from casual gamers to hardcore veterans.
There’s also the Bloody Palace mode, which throws players into a survival gauntlet packed with nonstop action. On top of that, the Cameo System lets you spot other real players in your game, adding a fun social twist to the otherwise solo experience.
Critics Loved It, Too
Devil May Cry 5 didn’t just crush it in sales—it also earned high praise from critics. With Metacritic scores hovering between 87–88 across platforms, reviewers applauded its deep combat mechanics, gorgeous visuals, and return to the franchise’s core style.
Sure, there were a few nitpicks—some thought V’s slower combat pace didn’t quite match up to the others, and a few felt the campaign was a bit short (around 10–15 hours). But overall, the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Devil May Cry 5 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, making it super easy to jump in no matter your platform of choice.
