February 2026 Highlights - What You Should Really Watch Out For

The most anticipated release of February is undoubtedly Resident Evil Requiem, also known as Resident Evil 9. After years of speculation, leaks, and teasers, Capcom is finally bringing players back to Raccoon City.

The game introduces Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, as the new protagonist. She is joined by a more mature Leon Kennedy.

According to reports, the game leans heavily into horror, more so than Resident Evil Village, with director Koshi Nakanishi promising it surpasses his earlier works like Resident Evil 7 and Revelations. The villain, Victor Gideon, is already being described as one of the most chilling antagonists in the series.

The release date is set for February 27, 2026, across PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Switch 2. Fans have waited eight years for this installment, and expectations are sky-high.

Reanimal

Another standout is Reanimal, developed by Tarsier Studios, the team behind Little Nightmares. This new IP is being called a spiritual successor to their earlier work, but with a darker and more ambitious approach.

Players guide two protagonists, The Boy and The Girl, through a treacherous island filled with bizarre creatures and sinister secrets.

Key features include: Local and online co-op play, Dynamic camera perspectives, including first-person sections, Intelligent AI companions for solo players, and stealth mechanics that emphasize tension.

Previews have praised the enemy designs, with grotesque figures and shadowy monsters that rival the best of Little Nightmares. The game also introduces dialogue between protagonists, adding emotional depth to the narrative.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is finally giving fans the remake they wanted with Yakuza Kiwami 3. Unlike the 2019 remaster, this is a ground-up rebuild using the Dragon Engine. Combat has been overhauled with new Okinawan Ryukyu fighting styles, weapon systems, and enhanced Dragon techniques.

The orphanage sections, often criticized in the original, have been reworked into engaging minigames with a new bond system called Daddy Rank. Players can cook, sew, fish, and unlock substories tied to each child.

The expansion Dark Ties focuses on antagonist Yoshitaka Mine, offering an 8–11 hour campaign with a unique combat style called Dark Awakening. This expansion is described as one of the darkest stories in the franchise, contrasting Kiryu’s hopeful narrative.

Team Ninja is back with Nioh 3, releasing February 6, 2026. The game introduces open-field exploration, dual combat stances (Samurai and Ninja), and expanded yokai encounters. The transition from linear maps to interconnected zones is a major shift, giving players more freedom to explore.

Priced at $69.99 for the standard edition and $109.99 for the deluxe, Nioh 3 is launching simultaneously on PS5 and PC, a first for the series.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

Square Enix revisits one of its most beloved JRPGs with a modern reimagining of the PS1 classic. Updated visuals, reworked systems, and expanded story elements make this more than a simple remaster. For fans of traditional JRPGs, this is one of the month’s most nostalgic yet fresh offerings.

High on Life 2

The quirky shooter returns with a Metroidvania twist. Building on the humor and bizarre weapon mechanics of the first game, High on Life 2 expands exploration and narrative depth. It’s shaping up to be both a comedy-driven experience and a mechanically ambitious sequel.

Obsidian’s fantasy RPG is finally coming to PS5, bringing a vibrant new world full of magic, exploration, and branching storylines.

Set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, this first-person action RPG puts players on a quest to investigate a strange plague while battling through a vast world with a mix of weapons and spells.

Alongside the PS5 release, an anniversary update will roll out for all platforms, adding a Game Plus mode, a photo mode, three new playable races, overworld appearance customization, and a new weapon type. The PS5 version will include all post-launch content and updates released so far.
