About Mewgenics
So what exactly is Mewgenics? It's a turn-based tactical roguelike RPG built around a deep cat breeding and genetics system. You'll build a team of four cats, assign them classes like Fighter, Mage, or Tank, and guide them through grid-based combat adventures.
The core loop involves returning cats passing down their traits, mutations, and learned abilities to future generations. Combat demands careful positioning and rewards players for discovering powerful combinations among more than 1,000 unique abilities and 900 items.
Reviews So Far
The critical reception has been overwhelmingly positive. IGN awarded it a 9/10, praising the massive volume of content. "A fantastic tactical RPG that's good for more than a hundred hours of roguelike runs. Just when you think you have it figured out, it'll throw something completely unexpected and hilariously gross at you – and probably a catchy new original song, too."
PC Gamer gave it a stellar 92/100. They noted: "If you've been thinking about forming a deeply unhealthy relationship with a videogame in 2026, Mewgenics is for you. The only sane path forward is embracing the chaos. I was able to combo a set of plastic bottles with a chronically incontinent cat to create an endless source of free healing water."
GamesRadar+ awarded it 9/10, calling it "a dense, detailed, and hugely varied strategy roguelike" that occasionally suffers from harsh RNG but remains a worthy successor to The Binding of Isaac.
Noisy Pixel went even higher with 95/100, describing it as "a wildly ambitious tactical roguelite that merges cat breeding, strategic combat, and eccentric indie charm into an endlessly replayable experience."
GameSpot also gave it 9/10, noting that "this is a game that you can play nonstop for hours on end through trials and triumphs."
PCGamesN gave it 8/10, acknowledging the game's depth while criticizing its humor: "Mewgenics offers more depth and ingenuity than any strategy game I've played in years. It is also terminally unfunny, with an aesthetic, theme, and cast of characters that consistently miss the mark."
Mewgenics is currently the highest-rated game of 2026 to date with a Metacritic score of 90.
