A brand-new Donkey Kong game titled Donkey Kong Bananza is officially heading to the Nintendo Switch 2, with a global release date set for July 17, 2025. Marking a major return for the franchise, this upcoming title breaks away from the series’ recent 2.5D roots and dives into full 3D platforming for the first time in years.
What’s more exciting for longtime fans is that Donkey Kong Bananza is being developed by a team that includes developers who worked on Super Mario Odyssey, which naturally raises expectations. While Nintendo hasn’t yet revealed deep gameplay mechanics, early previews suggest a vibrant, open-world-inspired level design and a bold new direction for the beloved ape.
As per Nintendo’s usual approach with first-party titles, the game will release as a standard edition only. So don’t expect fancy collector’s editions, bonus content, or early access options. It’ll be available physically and digitally, with pricing likely falling in line with recent flagship titles—though still slightly cheaper than Mario Kart World.
The digital version is expected to go live on the Nintendo eShop at 7 AM PT, aligning with Nintendo’s regular release window. For players across various time zones, here’s when you can start playing:
7:00 AM PDT – July 17
9:00 AM CDT – July 17
10:00 AM EDT – July 17
3:00 PM BST – July 17
12:00 AM AEDT – July 18
So, whether you’re up early in California or waiting until midnight in Sydney, everyone gets their fair share of bananas—just not ahead of schedule.
