The latest patch for Dune: Awakening focuses on improving the endgame experience for players who prefer farming and exploration over PvP combat.
Funcom has just rolled out a fresh update for Dune: Awakening, and this one’s especially good news for PvE fans. Patch 1.1.15.0 introduces several quality-of-life improvements and gameplay changes that make the endgame grind feel a bit more balanced—especially if you'd rather explore the sands of Arrakis than get dragged into constant PvP fights.
One of the standout changes is that Tier 6 (T6) resources can now be gathered across much wider areas of the Deep Desert’s PvE zones. Previously, getting your hands on those high-tier materials often meant venturing deep into PvP-heavy territory, which wasn’t ideal for everyone. Now, resource gathering won’t feel like a death wish for solo players or those who just want to chill and progress at their own pace.
This update is part of Funcom’s continued effort to respond to community feedback. Earlier, the developers expanded the PvE zone in the Deep Desert from just 10% of the map to a much larger 50%. That shift came after players voiced frustration about the endgame being too PvP-focused—or downright toxic in some cases. Even after Funcom tried to patch out griefing tactics (like squashing players with Ornithopters), some players still found creative ways to ruin others' experience, such as deliberately blocking thopters by landing on them.
As per the official patch notes, the new update adds random respawn timers to unique loot containers in the Deep Desert, which should make things more dynamic. There's also a broader selection of unique loot that can now drop in PvE areas, giving non-PvP players more reasons to roam the desert. Plastanium crafting components are now tied to specific content areas—like Imperial Testing Stations, Caves, and Shipwrecks—which should make farming a bit more targeted and rewarding.
But PvP fans haven’t been forgotten. One important tweak increases the delay when leaving a PvP security zone from 5 to 30 seconds. This change is aimed at reducing border camping and gives players a better chance to defend their territory properly.
Other gameplay updates include a boost in the number of spice fields—medium fields are now back up to 8, and small ones have increased from 22 to 30. Landsraad tasks have also been adjusted so that contributions made after task completion still count for personal progress, though they won’t change which faction wins or how votes are awarded.
On top of all that, there are a bunch of general improvements and bug fixes. Stability has been improved, the sandworm is now less likely to push vehicles underground, and there’s a new audio alert for PvP zone changes. Several bugs have also been addressed, including a frustrating issue where contract rewards would drop on the ground if your inventory was full—and another where players could exploit vehicle crafting using someone else’s inventory.
If you've been holding off on diving into Dune: Awakening, now might be a great time to jump in. The game has had a strong start since its June 10 launch. It quickly earned a “Very Positive” rating on Steam and reached a peak of over 189,000 concurrent players earlier this month. With more than 1 million players already, it’s now Funcom’s fastest-selling title ever.
And if you’re new to the world of Arrakis, there’s plenty of help available—from class guides and resource tips to walkthroughs and trainer locations.
