Just two weeks after launch, Dune: Awakening has officially crossed the 1 million copies sold milestone, making it Funcom’s fastest-selling game ever.

Released on June 10, 2025, the survival MMO quickly found its footing with players, climbing to a peak of 189,000 concurrent users on Steam. This achievement places it far ahead of Funcom’s previous hit, Conan Exiles, which took a full year to hit the same sales figure. Clearly, Dune: Awakening struck a chord with fans of the Dune universe and survival games alike.

According to Funcom, this early success is more than just about the numbers. An infographic released alongside the announcement shares a snapshot of player activity across the unforgiving desert world of Arrakis. Some highlights? Over 121 million building pieces have been placed, 517,000 ornithopters have been crafted, and players have collectively consumed over 6.1 billion grams of spice. On the deadlier side, sandstorms have claimed more than 66,000 lives, and over 816,000 players met their end at the jaws of Shai-Hulud.

The infographic also shows faction choices, with Bene Gesserit leading at 31%, followed by Swordmasters (25%), Troopers (24%), and Mentats (20%).

Guild activity is thriving too, with more than 121,000 guilds formed and players having surveyed a staggering 25.5 million km² of desert terrain.

To keep the momentum going, Funcom recently rolled out patch 1.1.0.15, introducing gameplay changes such as respawn adjustments and damage tweaks. Alongside this, a message from the game's Creative Director teased future content, including expanded PvE opportunities in the Deep Desert and a refined Landsraad system offering better pacing and stronger rewards.

Dune: Awakening is set in the vast world of Arrakis, drawing inspiration from Frank Herbert’s legendary novels and Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptations. Players take on the role of survivors—known as Sleepers—trying to thrive in an ever-shifting desert where danger lurks behind every dune.
