Electronic Arts has confirmed that F1 25 will receive a paid expansion to cover the 2026 Formula One World Championship, rather than launching a new standalone entry next year.
This marks a significant shift for the franchise, which has traditionally released annual installments since EA acquired Codemasters in 2021.

According to Lee Mather, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters, the decision is part of a “strategic reset” for the F1 series. Instead of rushing out F1 26, the team will deliver a premium content update that reflects the sport’s major regulation changes, new cars, updated teams, and refreshed driver lineups.
Mather emphasized that F1 25’s success has fueled this long-term plan, noting that the franchise will return in 2027 with a redesigned entry that “looks, feels, and plays differently, delivering more gameplay choices.” EA added that the 2027 release will be built in partnership with Formula One and all eleven teams, aiming to expand on what fans already love while opening the door to new audiences.
It’s worth noting that EA has been restructuring its racing portfolio. Earlier this year, the company reduced some roles at Codemasters and ended its partnership with the World Rally Championship. EA explained that these moves were part of a broader strategy to focus resources on priority franchises. While it’s unclear if these layoffs directly impacted F1 development, the publisher insists it remains committed to the series.
For now, F1 25 will be the first game in the franchise to officially cover two seasons, representing both 2025 and 2026. With Season 4 already live, bringing a new Survival Challenge mode and limited-time unlockables, the game continues to evolve even before the expansion arrives.
If you’re looking to jump in, F1 25 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
