Electronic Arts is slowly lifting the veil on its upcoming Iron Man title, developed by Motive Studio, with a new job listing that offers fresh insight into the game's structure and gameplay features.
Spotted on Reddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, the listing confirms that the game will include “major single-player levels” and hints at RPG mechanics—suggesting a deeper, more personalized Iron Man experience.
A Story-Driven Experience at Its Core
The job listing seeks a Level Designer capable of creating “extremely fun, satisfying game levels” that align with Motive’s creative direction. More notably, the responsibilities section specifically calls for someone to “design and build major single-player levels,” strongly pointing to a narrative-driven structure rather than multiplayer or live-service gameplay.
This lines up with Iron Man’s initial announcement in 2022, which described the game as a single-player, third-person action-adventure powered by Unreal Engine 5. Since then, official updates have been scarce, with many fans speculating on the title’s genre and scale.
RPG Mechanics and Customization Potential
One requirement in the listing stands out: “Experience in Single-player Action RPG games.” While vague, this suggests the game could feature character progression or customization—fitting for a hero like Tony Stark, who is constantly modifying his armor.
This could mean skill trees, armor upgrades, and modular flight and combat systems, not unlike Armored Core or Marvel’s Spider-Man’s gadget system.
Given Motive’s pedigree with Dead Space and the clear emphasis on AAA quality and narrative depth, this RPG angle could deliver a highly personalized Iron Man experience.
Open World or Linear Missions?
The listing has sparked debate over the game’s structure. While the phrase “major single-player levels” might imply linear, mission-based gameplay, it doesn’t necessarily rule out open or semi-open world elements. Many open-world titles—from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to Marvel’s Spider-Man—feature structured levels within an explorable world.
So, while a full open world isn’t confirmed, a hybrid structure remains a strong possibility.
Still Deep in Development
Despite the new listing, it’s clear Iron Man is still in development. Motive’s general manager Patrick Klaus previously stated the game entered pre-production in 2022, and while there were rumors of a GDC 2025 showcase, those references were later removed.
This means fans are unlikely to see a full reveal anytime soon. But the job description does reinforce that development is ongoing, with EA continuing to invest in top-tier talent to bring the project to life.
Led by Industry Veterans
The Iron Man game is being helmed by Olivier Proulx, best known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which earned praise for its writing, combat, and single-player focus.
With Motive’s track record and a team of veterans behind the project, expectations are high.
