What Is Actually New in WWE 2K26?

Visual Concepts has packed in more new content here than in any recent entry. According to the official 2K site, here is what is fresh at launch:

Gameplay and Physics:

  • Reversal system now ties directly into stamina, rewarding smart offense with better timing windows

  • Stackable tables, where two tables can be piled and broken simultaneously

  • Thumbtacks as usable weapons, with pouring or smashing options

  • Shopping carts can be dragged, whipped, and used as environmental weapons

  • Championship belts are now usable weapons

  • Expanded crowd combat and barricade battles

  • New start-of-match options including handshakes, chain wrestling, crowd play, or an immediate brawl

  • Improved ragdoll physics and reduced invisible walls

New Match Types:

  • I Quit: No pins, no submissions in the traditional sense. Your opponent must say the words.

  • Inferno: The ring is surrounded by fire. The goal is to set your opponent ablaze.

  • Dumpster Match: Throw your opponent in and close the lid.

  • 3 Stages of Hell: Best two-out-of-three across any three match types of your choosing.

  • Scrapyard Brawl: A new wasteland environment with environmental hazards throughout.

Mode Updates:

  • CM Punk Showcase includes real career moments plus what-if fantasy scenarios and a Custom Gauntlet mode

  • The Island returns with a bigger story, three rival factions, co-op support, shops, quests with voice acting, and the new Scrapyard arena

  • MyRISE now features two brand-new division storylines with branching heel and face paths

  • MyFACTION allows mixed-gender factions, a new Faction Chemistry system, and Quick Swap combat

  • Universe Mode gets a setup wizard, WWE Draft support for up to eight drafts, better promos, and show intros

  • MyGM now runs 50-week seasons, doubling the previous length

  • Creation Suite now supports 200 CAW save slots and 2,000 image slots, with two-tone hair blending and up to 60 attire layers

Commentary has also been refreshed, with Wade Barrett and Booker T joining the broadcast team.

Also, the DLC system is getting overhauled—say goodbye to the traditional season pass. Now there are Ringside Passes, featuring free and premium tracks each season, packed with new Superstars, arenas, cosmetics, VC, and challenges.

How Are Critics Reacting?

As per early access reviews, the scores have been solid. According to Metacritic data as of March 12, the PS5 version sits at an 80 from 29 reviews and PC at 82 from 7 reviews. OpenCritic puts the average at 81, with 85% of critics recommending the game.

The praise is largely centered on the massive roster, the feel of the in-ring gameplay, and the depth of single-player modes. GamersRD gave it a 97, calling it "a fully realized product" and noting that "Visual Concepts has done it again."

Gamesurf scored it a 90, saying the game "captures the magic of WWE" and calling it "one of the highest peaks in the series."

SpazioGames landed at 85, describing it as the "most complete evolution" that "captures the spectacular spirit of WWE better than ever."

Not everyone was fully on board, though. GamesRadar+ gave it a 70 and noted that while "action in the ring is solid, and some of the best in the series, it can sting when rewards feel so miserly and centered on monetization over skill." They suggested waiting a couple of months to see how the Ringside Pass and MyFACTION rewards shake out in practice.

Dexerto was the harshest at 40 out of 100, writing that "Improve the gameplay, improve Universe mode, upgrade everything in the package rather than adding more. Currently, WWE 2K26 is bogged down by tiresome features and a predatory Ringside pass that has no place in games at all, at least in its initial form."

The common thread among the lower scores is monetization. The new Ringside Pass system, which replaces the traditional season pass model, has been flagged as grindy by several outlets. MyFACTION continues to push microtransactions, which remains a sore point for a segment of the fanbase.
