Ubisoft breathes new life into a fan-favorite with a long-awaited performance upgrade.

Ubisoft has quietly released Patch 1.08 for Far Cry 4, adding native 60 FPS support for PlayStation 5—more than 11 years after the game's original launch in 2014. The update went live on April 29, and is now available for download.
Far Cry 4 was previously locked to 30 FPS. This patch finally brings it in line with the 60 FPS performance Xbox Series X|S players have enjoyed since 2021 through Microsoft's FPS Boost feature.
A Welcome Boost for a Beloved Classic
This performance upgrade is part of Ubisoft’s recent push to enhance its older titles. Just weeks ago, the company rolled out a similar 60 FPS patch for Far Cry New Dawn, a spin-off of Far Cry 5.
Other Ubisoft games like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Origins have also received similar performance upgrades in recent times.
In fact, the company recently added Steam achievements to several older titles including Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and even the 12-year-old Splinter Cell: Blacklist, showing renewed interest in supporting its back catalog of games.
Far Cry 4 takes players to the fictional region of Kyrat in the Himalayas, featuring one of the series' most memorable villains, Pagan Min. The game's colorful open world isn't just visually impressive—it offers a playground for combat, exploration, and hunting across its vertical mountain landscapes.
The game recently made headlines when Ubisoft unintentionally released the censored Japanese version on Steam for global users. This version had nudity and other adult content removed. Ubisoft acknowledged the error on Reddit and promptly corrected it.
These updates to older games come during an important time for Ubisoft. The company recently created a new subsidiary company focused on its Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six brands, supported by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese company Tencent.
Fans are also watching closely for updates on Far Cry 7, reportedly in development under the codename “Blackbird.” According to Insider Gaming, the next mainline entry could launch in 2026.
Ubisoft is also developing The Far Cry extraction-based multiplayer shooter under the codename "Maverick" since 2023, until completely rebooted recently.
