Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode is reportedly getting Proximity Chat for the first time, based on claims from two well-known leakers.
This feature would allow players to hear others nearby in-game — and yes, that means both friendly callouts and potentially some unexpected chatter.
The leak comes from reliable Fortnite insiders Wensoing and Loolo_WRLD, with additional backing from HYPEX. According to their reports, Epic Games has separated certain Creative Proximity Chat files so they can be integrated into Battle Royale. Players will also have the option to toggle the feature on or off, ensuring that those who prefer a quieter match can opt out entirely.
When introduced, disabling Proximity Chat should follow a familiar process seen in other Fortnite modes: head into Battle Royale, open Settings, go to Audio, find the Proximity Chat option, and toggle it. Alternatively, players can use “Push to Talk” to only broadcast when needed, which is handy for quick callouts without constant open mic.
In other games like Call of Duty and Among Us, it’s been a tool for both strategy and unexpected moments that make rounds more entertaining. With Fortnite’s Chapter 6 “Shock ‘N Awesome” season already live — bringing the Power Rangers crossover, new weapons, enemies, and POIs — the addition of Proximity Chat would only add to the chaos and fun.
Epic Games hasn’t officially confirmed the feature or its release date yet, but given the track record of these leakers, players may not have to wait long to try it out.
