Fortnite Players Upset as Popular Star Wars Skin Requires Massive XP Grind

Darth Jar Jar skin in fortnite

The Darth Jar Jar skin just hit Fortnite’s shop over the weekend, and while a lot of fans were excited, that excitement quickly turned to frustration. Why? Because before you can even buy the skin for 1,500 V-Bucks (about $13), you have to grind out 1.28 million XP. Yeah, seriously.

Players have taken to social media to vent. Sure, Fortnite has used XP requirements before, but locking such a hyped skin behind this much gameplay and a paywall? That’s a new level.

To make matters worse, the clock’s ticking. The Star Wars season wraps up June 7, so anyone who already finished their Battle Pass now has to put in a ton of extra hours just to unlock the ability to pay for the skin.

One fan summed up the mood pretty well on Reddit:

“I was so hyped for this skin and was fine with it being behind a pay wall... But this whole locked behind an XP wall is ridiculous. You want me to earn the right to give you money? I immediately closed the game.”

Adding fuel to the fire is the release of a regular Jar Jar Binks skin, which you can buy outright for 1,500 V-Bucks with no XP requirement. But if you want both versions — plus all the accessories — you’re looking at potentially 6,500 V-Bucks in total.

As another Redditor put it:

“Regular Jar Jar alone is 20 dollars. If you want both that s**t is 52 entire dollars for something that ought to have just been 1 skin with 3 styles.”

Still, not everyone is mad. Some players are defending Epic, pointing out that these are just cosmetics and don’t impact actual gameplay. A few have even shared how they managed to hit the XP goal pretty quickly.

One player said:

“It wasn’t that hard to earn the XP. Took me around 8–9 hours. I had no plans on Saturday. I did it in 3 sittings, but all in one day. I played Rocket Racing and Ranked and did Alignment Challenges to farm as much XP as possible.”

Meanwhile, Fortnite’s Star Wars event keeps rolling. This week focuses on the Mandalorian warriors, with a new customizable Mandalorian skin set to drop soon.

And yes — the season is expected to end with a live event on June 7. Rumor has it, players may finally get to board the Death Star, which has been floating ominously above the island all season.
