Fortnite Is Bringing Star Wars Creator Tools to UEFN This Week

Fortnite is officially opening up Star Wars content creation to developers, with the new tools set to go live on Thursday, March 19.

The launch coincides with the release of the game's next battle royale season (C7S2), making it a significant week for the title on multiple fronts.

Fortnite's Star Wars creator tools go live March 19.

This moment has been a long time coming. Back in early 2024, Disney made a $1.5 billion investment into Fortnite, and with it came the promise of officially licensed Star Wars content creation tools for the Unreal Editor for Fortnite. That promise is now becoming a reality.

That said, players should temper their expectations for day one. Thursday marks the release of Star Wars "assets" to developers, not a flood of ready-to-play minigames. So do not expect to be swinging a lightsaber through a custom map just yet. It will take time for creators to actually build experiences using these tools.

As for the AI-powered Darth Vader that appeared in a previous crossover, there is currently no indication that he will be made available to creators anytime soon.

Still, for fans who have only been able to enjoy Star Wars content through Fortnite's limited-time crossover events, this is a meaningful step forward.

The timing also seems deliberate. With May 4, the franchise's annual celebration day, just around the corner, Epic likely hopes a solid library of community-made Star Wars experiences will be ready by then.

The upcoming season itself is shaping up to be a big one. It is expected to bring back The Foundation, the game's central narrative character voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and will reportedly weave together several long-running story threads as Fortnite's larger narrative picks up pace.
