11 bit studios has confirmed that Frostpunk 2 will launch on consoles on September 18, 2025, bringing the city-building survival game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
While the PC version of Frostpunk 2 arrived last year, console players were still waiting on a solid release window. Now, that wait is officially over. Along with the release date, 11 bit studios also shared fresh details on physical editions and what’s next for the franchise.
The studio is partnering once again with Skybound Games to offer two collectible physical editions: the Icebreaker Edition and the Whiteout Edition. The Icebreaker includes a small diorama, digital versions of an art book and a novella, and of course, the full game on disc. For those wanting even more, the Whiteout Edition adds three planned DLCs, a themed keychain, stickers, art cards, a patch, and everything from the Icebreaker version.
Importantly, both editions come with the complete game on disc—no partial installs or required downloads just to play the campaign. It’s a small but welcome detail for collectors who prefer owning their games outright.

If you’re more of a digital-only gamer, there’s good news too. Frostpunk 2 will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, making it an easy pick for subscribers looking to dive into its icy, politically-charged world without an extra purchase.
According to the studio’s previous roadmap, players can also expect two major DLC expansions in 2025, followed by a third in 2026.
And that’s not all—11 bit studios is also planning a remake of the original Frostpunk, titled Frostpunk 1886, currently in development with Unreal Engine 5. The remake will feature new tech, buildings, a third “Purpose” path (in addition to Order and Faith), and full mod support. A gameplay reveal is scheduled for later this year.
The timing of the console launch also follows a stellar financial year for 11 bit studios. As per financial reports, the studio made approximately $35 million USD in 2024, marking a 169% increase year-over-year. A significant chunk of that came from Frostpunk 2, which sold over 592,000 copies and brought in $17.5 million USD by the end of December 2024.
For now, you can wishlist the game on PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store.
