Two major Xbox exclusives — Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 — are reportedly in development for PlayStation 5, according to new findings from developer resumes.
The report comes from MP1st, which uncovered resumes from developers at The Coalition and Undead Labs that specifically list PS5 as a target platform for both upcoming titles. A game designer working on Gears E-Day reportedly mentioned Xbox Series, PC, and PS5 as launch platforms. Similarly, a resume from a developer at Undead Labs cited that State of Decay 3 is being developed for the same three platforms.
While these resumes aren’t official confirmation, they offer one of the clearest signs yet that Xbox’s next wave of exclusives could launch on Sony’s console. No direct links or documents have been made public by MP1st, likely due to privacy concerns, but the consistency across multiple developers does lend credibility.
Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel set during the early days of the Locust War, is expected to arrive in 2026 — the same year that State of Decay 3 is now rumored to release, following earlier projections of a 2025 launch. That timeline may have shifted due to internal challenges at Undead Labs. As reported by Ethan Gach at Kotaku, the studio has experienced layoffs, which could have affected the project’s development pace.
This wouldn’t be the first time Gears made the jump to PS5. Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original game built in Unreal Engine 5, is set to arrive in August 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That precedent makes the case for E-Day launching on PlayStation much stronger.
Meanwhile, State of Decay 3 would mark the franchise’s debut on a non-Xbox platform. There’s no indication yet if previous entries in the series will follow, but if the third game does well on PS5, Microsoft might consider backfilling the catalog.
Until Xbox makes things official, fans will have to rely on these hints and breadcrumbs. But one thing is clear — the line between Xbox and PlayStation exclusives is becoming blurrier by the day.
