Ghost of Yotei has reportedly sold over 2 million copies within three days of release, making it one of the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusives of 2025.
The milestone, spotted on October 5, comes via a peculiar social media post from Stephen Lin, the Director of Sales Operations for PlayStation China, which was later highlighted by industry consultant Daniel Camilo.

Released on October 2, Ghost of Yotei continues Sony’s tradition of blockbuster first-party exclusives. Much like its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, the game launched as a PlayStation exclusive.
If the reported numbers are accurate, the game has already generated over $140 million in revenue, even when calculated at the base $69.99 Standard Edition price. With higher-priced Digital Deluxe ($79.99) and Collector’s Editions ($249.99) also available, actual revenue could be significantly higher.
In a September 2025 interview with Game File’s Stephen Totilo, Brian Fleming, co-founder of Sucker Punch Productions, revealed that Ghost of Yotei had a budget similar to Ghost of Tsushima, estimated at around $60 million. With sales already doubling that figure, the game has effectively recouped its development costs within days. Of course, this doesn’t account for marketing expenses, which are expected to be substantial given Sony’s heavy promotion of the title as its flagship Q4 release.
While Ghost of Yotei’s launch is undeniably strong, it trails slightly behind Ghost of Tsushima, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first 72 hours. That performance made Tsushima the fastest-selling new PlayStation IP on the PS4. By September 2024, lifetime sales of Ghost of Tsushima had reached 13 million units, boosted significantly by a later Steam release that added an estimated 2 million more.
So far, the reviews from both critics and gamers have been largely positive. Metacritic shows a score of 86 (Generally Favorable, based on over 100 critic reviews), while 97% of critics on OpenCritic recommend it. Many agree it’s a worthy successor to Ghost of Tsushima, featuring improved combat, a more dynamic open world, and a compelling new protagonist in Atsu.
Here are some top reviews:
Game Rant (10/10) - "Ghost of Yotei is a monumental open world graphics powerhouse driven by intense combat and an enthralling revenge story."
IGN (8/10) - "A predictable but well-executed story takes you through Ghost of Yotei's gorgeous landscapes and satisfying, fluid action – it may not be revolutionizing open world games, but it's a great distillation of the samurai fantasy."
Eurogamer (3/5) - "Sucker Punch's sequel offers more great swordplay and heartfelt storytelling, but would be better served as a linear action game, freed of its poor sidequests and dated open world."
TheGamer (8/10) - "This is an experience that walks, talks, and carries a customisable sword like every other triple-A game, but it looks damn good doing it, and is a lot of fun. Surely with a game like Ghost of Yotei, that's all you're looking for, and Sucker Punch is only too happy to deliver. It's not the best triple-A game of all time, but it might be the most triple-A game of all time."
GameSpot (9/10) - "Ghost of Yotei is shaped by Atsu, its new protagonist, as you're propelled on a gripping tale of revenge amidst the backdrop of Feudal Japan's contrasting beauty and violence."
