Project Misriah, a fan-made Halo 3 mod for Counter-Strike 2, has been taken down following a Microsoft DMCA request.

In November, modder Froddoyo released Project Misriah, a creative attempt to bring Halo 3’s multiplayer experience into Valve’s first-person shooter. The mod quickly gained traction among fans who were impressed by how faithfully it recreated the feel of Bungie’s classic shooter using the Source 2 engine.

However, Microsoft was far less enthusiastic. The company filed a takedown request with Valve, citing "unauthorized use of Halo assets," and Valve complied by removing the mod from the Steam Workshop.

Froddoyo described Project Misriah as “a workshop collection of Halo ported maps and assets that aims to bring a Halo 3 multiplayer-like experience to Counter-Strike 2.” The project didn’t just borrow ideas—it directly lifted character models, maps, sound effects, and gameplay mechanics from Halo 3. That level of replication likely played a major role in Microsoft’s decision to act.

The modder shared the takedown notice on social media, writing, “It was fun while it lasted. Make sure to give your thanks to Microsoft!” In a follow-up comment on the mod’s YouTube trailer, Froddoyo thanked players for their support but confirmed the project will not be re-uploaded.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has stepped in to protect Halo’s intellectual property. The company has historically tolerated transformative fan projects that follow its Game Content Usage Rules, such as Installation 01. But it has consistently taken action against mods that directly copy or emulate Halo games, including past efforts to revive Russia-exclusive Halo Online.

Valve, meanwhile, has a track record of honoring copyright requests, with Garry Newman previously confirming that Garry’s Mod had to remove Nintendo-related content after similar takedowns.

As for Halo fans, Halo: Campaign Evolved, a modern reimagining of the original Halo: Combat Evolved set to launch in 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
