The upgraded version of Hogwarts Legacy is shaping up to be one of the Nintendo Switch 2’s most impressive launch titles.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025, early adopters will be treated to a significantly upgraded version of Hogwarts Legacy—one that aims to redeem the shortcomings of the original Switch release with a host of technical enhancements and next-gen features.
According to a new Japanese press release from Sega (via 4gamer), the publisher of the game, the Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy will boast:
1440p resolution when docked
1080p in handheld mode
Full HDR support for vibrant colors and deeper contrast
But the visual upgrades go far beyond resolution.
Major Technical Enhancements
One of the biggest improvements is the inclusion of DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), an AI-powered technology that boosts image quality and performance by rendering at lower resolutions and upscaling them intelligently.
This makes Hogwarts Legacy just the second confirmed Switch 2 game to support DLSS after Cyberpunk 2077.
Gone are the loading screens that plagued the original Switch version, especially during open-world transitions like entering shops in Hogsmeade. On Switch 2, the game allows for seamless exploration—a major quality-of-life upgrade for players.
Additional enhancements include:
Improved lighting and shadows
Upgraded anti-aliasing
Higher and more stable frame rates
Shorter loading times
Smoother flight performance across the open world
Players will also have the option to use mouse-style control via the new Joy-Con 2's mouse operation feature, adding more flexibility to how the game can be played.
Release Date & Editions
Hogwarts Legacy launches for Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, the same day as the console itself. Two editions will be available in Japan:
Standard Physical Edition – 7,980 yen (~$55)
Digital-Only Deluxe Edition – 9,878 yen (~$68)
However, it's important to note that the physical edition uses a "Game-Key Card"—essentially a download token rather than a traditional cartridge. This trend toward digital-only distribution has drawn criticism from game preservationists who see it as a blow to physical media.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, where players take on the role of a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The game has already been released on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, and the original Nintendo Switch.
