After a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, fans were buzzing about Hollow Knight: Silksong potentially launching alongside the ROG Ally X handheld. But as it turns out, that’s not quite the case.
The speculation began when Xbox president Sarah Bond mentioned that Silksong would be “available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year.” Naturally, fans interpreted that as a holiday 2025 release date, timed specifically with the Ally X handheld launch. But developer Team Cherry has since stepped in to clarify the situation — and yes, it’s good news.
Silksong Will Arrive Before the Holidays
In a message shared on Silksong's official Discord server (spotted by IGN), Team Cherry’s marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin set the record straight. According to Griffin, Silksong is not being held back for the ROG Ally X and will launch before Christmas 2025.
“I confirmed BEFORE Holiday,” Griffin wrote, directly responding to fan concerns. He added: “We are not tied to a console release,” squashing any theory that Silksong was tied exclusively to new hardware.
And for those still unsure which holiday he meant — Griffin made it crystal clear: “Christmas yes.”
Could a September Release Be on the Horizon?
This revelation opens the door for an earlier-than-expected launch, potentially even in September. Why? Because the game is confirmed to be playable at ACMI (Australia’s national museum of screen culture in Melbourne) starting September 18.
With hands-on demos usually signaling a game’s final development phase, it’s not out of the question that Silksong could see a late Q3 or early Q4 release — well before the holiday rush begins.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, the new Xbox handhelds Ally, Windows PC, PS5, PS4, the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2, and the original Nintendo Switch as well. Playing through Xbox Game Pass is also an option on Xbox and PC devices.
